Although he enters the final day of the Memorial Tournament with a chance of victory, Tiger Woods has drawn the ire of the golfing public for snubbing fans as he left the course in Dublin, Ohio on Saturday. Per The Express, fans were left outraged that the 79-time PGA tour winner failed to stop for waiting supporters after he had concluded his final round of the day – and many took to social media to vent their anger and disappointment. Despite putting on strong performances on Friday and Saturday to recover from a shaky start on Thursday, Woods bogeyed two holes late on Saturday to leave himself four shots off the lead heading into Sunday’s final day. “Just noticed Tiger Woods walking off the course and ignoring all the fans, just because he missed a putt on the last hole. Needs to understand who pays his wages,” noted one observer. Another fan also tweeted their dismay at Woods’ behaviour saying “Good old @TigerWoods – missing a simple short putt on 18 and completely ignoring the masses of fans trying to low 5 him. Poor show I’m afraid.” Woods would no doubt have been feeling agitated following his late blip on Saturday, and must surely be feeling pressure to perform this weekend. Despite being a five-time winner of the event earlier in his career, 42-year-old Woods is without a win of any kind in almost five years – and has faced numerous back surgeries to allow him to compete on-course once again. However, the reality is that Tiger Woods remains the sport’s biggest mainstream name. His profile ensures that he will always attract attention from both media and fans – and given his many years of experience he should be well equipped by now to deal with this. The dichotomy between Woods’ on-course performance and his interaction with his fans was summed up by one tweet: “You did pretty good today up until you dissed all the fans who just wanted to get a little high five on your way back to the club house.” Whether or not Woods is able to roll back the years on Sunday and claim victory, one would certainly hope that he makes time for his fans upon the conclusion of his final round.
